art terms space
What Apple Mac is best for my needs as an artist?

I need help deciding what kind of mac I should get. I’m going into graphic art, design, etc, but I need the right mac for me at a decent price. What I’m looking for:

-lots and lots of storage space
-not too expensive – under $1500 (or $2000 if not possible)
-laptop – not a desktop
(anything else I would need in a laptop for graphics….?)

And should I buy a older version, but new?

At the very least however, please tell me what I should look for in an apple mac. (GB Ram, duel processor…. etc? I really don’t understand what those mean, but I saw these terms with apple mac amazon listings) I don’t want to make a mistake when buying one, ha ha ha.

Thank you!
EDIT: I found this on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0013FPYRK/ref=ord_cart_shr?_encoding=UTF8&m=A3ROFIE9FVO4A7&v=glance

Is this a good laptop to get? :o

Well, if you want a laptop your options are a MacBook or MacBook Pro. Rule out the Air, it’s really only useful for people who are on the road all the time.

Lots of storage space means external hard drives. You’ll be tied to wires, but it’s the only way to have desktop-level storage space.

That’s the perfect price range. They’re all dual-core now so that’s not an issue. RAM, go for 4GB minimum but buy from a place like crusial instead of Apple and you’ll save hundreds.

Personally, I’d get a previous generation MacBook Pro solely for the non-glossy screen. Right now you can pick up a refurbished model for under $1500. Here’s the one I use:

The gloss vs. non-gloss is arguable, but most pros agree that the glossy is not ideal for design use. In the end it’s personal opinion.
