Is a degree in music journalism necessary?

I decided a while ago I wanted to be a music journalist simply because I love music and it’s the only thing im really good at. I left art college with 3 art based a levels which are useless to me because every uni wants a – level english or music which I don’t have, which means uni is out of the question for me.
I was wondering if a degree in music journalism is the only way to get there? Im currently writing for 2 local music magazines, one of which is very successful, writing llive reviews demo reviews and doing interviews with bands. I am also producing my own fanzine and in the process of making a blog with my reviews on and such, but I dont get paid for it which doesnt bother me at all, the gigs are free and im gaining lots of experience. Do you think the experience im getting is enough for me to create a successful career in this field of journalism ?

Personally I think a degree in just plain Journalism would be all you need. You’re obviously a Brit as you speak of “A levels”.
I never realised there was such a degree, at least no in US.
